Saving Our Soldiers
We currently have three programs for veterans:
- Nursing Home Veterans Program
- Veterans’ PTSD Counseling program
- Vets for Vets
Nursing Home Veterans Program
The Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush recently announced that the Veterans Land Board (VLB) is collaborating with Ranch Hands Rescue to offer animal therapy for residents of the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home. The collaboration offers travel from the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham to the RHR facility in Argyle, Texas. During the ongoing sessions, the veterans work with the rescued animals and trauma counselors to address PTSD symptoms relating to survivors’ guilt, moral injury, intrusive memories, and end of life issues.
“Post-traumatic stress is a very real and serious issue that many of my fellow veterans face every day,” said Commissioner Bush. “Like other wounds of war, PTS is an injury – one that can be treated, allowing those who suffer to return to their lives. These invisible wounds often remain hidden, or unspoken, for years. At the VLB, we work every day to help veterans find the help they need and know that they aren’t alone. We are so proud of this wonderful collaboration with Ranch Hands Rescue and looking forward to offering healing and recovery for some of our veterans who have dealt with PTS for decades.”
The Veterans Land Board clinical team proclaimed Ranch Hands Rescue’s service to nursing home veterans the flagship program for PTSD and Trauma in the state of Texas, and asked that they expand statewide.
Veterans Counseling Program
The truth is that suicide is a looming reality for countless veterans returning from war, with an average of twenty-two veterans committing suicide every day. When veterans don’t face their personal and unique struggles, they commonly begin coping by engaging in self-destructive behaviors that create distance in their relationships and lead them away from good health. Our LPC-certified counselors target the struggles specific to veterans and offer healing through connection with a guardian animal in our paddock.

Vets for Vets
Vets for Vets is a peer group aimed at serving veterans who have lost direction. We recognize that in the civilian world veterans have a whole new set of challenges, and often need some tools with which to meet them. We aim to connect veterans with resources, and provide them the reassurance that this is not a solo mission.
The Vets for Vets discussion sessions are free of charge. In addition, RHR provides counseling services for veterans struggling with PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and other challenges. We provide financial aid for counseling services for qualified veterans when funds are available.
