Vets for vets is a peer group aimed at serving veterans who have reached a point where we have lost direction. We recognize that in the civilian world that we have a whole new set of challenges and need some tools to meet these new challenges. We aim to connect veterans with resources and ensure our veterans that this is not a solo mission. we are a group of veterans helping veterans because we truly understand life after service it like.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a complex and serious disorder affecting veterans from every conflict. We have made historic progress in PTSD. Other veterans are dealing with stress and anxiety because of other life experiences, like a job change or family conflicts. Severe stress and anxiety sometimes cause physical symptoms, like trembling or shaking, or can lead to feelings of panic or unease. Many veterans turn to substance abuse to self-medicate and numb their pain. More than 20 percent of veterans with PTSD also struggle with an addiction or dependence on drugs or alcohol. The symptoms of withdrawal combined with the symptoms of PTSD amplify negative feelings and emotions that may lead to a relapse. Some veterans show signs of social withdrawal or social isolation while transitioning from military to civilian life or during other major life changes. Some effects of this isolation include loneliness, relationship problems, alcohol or drug problems, and trouble sleeping.
