What is Bob’s House of Hope?
A long-term shelter for boys and men who are recovering from life in sex trafficking.
Are you open?
Not yet. Plans are in their initial stage for the house, with benefactors currently deciding on an undisclosed location for the home. If you would like to donate toward Bob’s House of Hope, please visit our House of Hope donations page.
What is your age limit for male victims?
We’ll start with boys between 18-24 years old. After that, we will start developing a strategy for those under 18.
What is the stay limit?
We want every person under our care to go forward from our safe home with a new roadmap marked toward a life of self-care, confidence and healing. We envision a minimum of one year in our program. The trauma associated with being sex trafficked is so extensive we will need to evaluate each case and determine each need based on testing and evaluations.
Are there other boys’ homes in Texas?
Frankly, we’re having a hard time finding them across the country. We have found a couple, but we will definitely be one of the first in the U.S. to open a shelter specifically for male victims of sex trafficking. This is an overlooked segment of victims, with only 4 of 25 shelters offering beds for males, and no long term care. It is a starving need, and we aim to do our part to bring it to light and rescue more boys and men from horrific lives as slaves.
Why just for boys?
- The U.S. Department of State cites global statistics estimating that boys and men may represent nearly 50% of total sex trafficking victims.
- Agencies find particular difficulty identifying male victims and catering to their unique needs.
- To add to boys’ near invisible victimhood, “only four out of 25 shelters for commercially sexually exploited children serve boys, leaving them no choice but to return to their homes or to the streets where they face potential re-exploitation,” according to JJIE.org.
