Angel is improving every day. It is wonderful to see her getting her spirit back and starting to enjoy being a horse again.

We heart animals.

Ranch Hand Rescue fosters, houses, feeds, and medically cares for ranch animals in distressed situations. Using a farm location and by using other established rescue organizations we offer a loving and caring home for our animals. Our operation is greatly supported by volunteers and fund raising activities.

We heart you for helping.

Your Donation Goes a Long Way

The cost of care for one horse per month averages $250. At any given time RHR cares for 20 or more horses daily. In addition we have over 35 additional farm animals as well as 75 Chickens, Geese and Ducks.

Many of our animals have Special Needs which drive that daily care cost up. To continue providing the quality care these animals deserve, we depend on the donations from caring people like you, our generous volunteers and our dedicated staff.

There are several ways to donate to Ranch Hand Rescue which we have listed below. Remember, your donation is tax deductable to the full extent of the law and your donation will be used for the care & feeding of these farm animals.

Sponsor a RHR Resident

Many people have asked how they can help an animal without actually providing it a forever home. If you are interested in "sponsoring" an animal, let us know! We'll be glad to indicate on our site that you are sponsoring that animal. The animal's adoption fee will not be reduced, but we will be able to use the adoption fee to help the next animal instead of simply covering a portion of our cost on this animal. Your donated funds will go directly to pay the costs of feeding and providing veterinary care to that animal.

Our average cost to provide care for animals varies with every single animal that comes in to our program because some come to us sick or injured, some need special food, some are pregnant or have broken bones, etc. Donations made to sponsor an animal can either be made online (please add "Sponsor" and the animal's name in your address information) or can be mailed to: Ranch Hand Rescue, Inc., 8827 Hwy 377S Argyle, Texas 76226

Adopt a Needy Animal

LlamaAt Ranch Hand Rescue our mission is to find safe, loving, long-term homes for our farm animals that are able to be adopted.

The majority of our animals are here because of abuse or neglect. It is our goal to ensure proper care of these animals, not only on the farm, but in their new homes as well.

To that end, we have a thorough screening process for all applicants.

Adopting a farm animal is a serious decision and commitment. We understand you may have questions and concerns about the process.

If you are interested in adopting one of our animals please email adopt@ranchhandrescue.org and we will email you more information.

Ranch Hand Rescue has partnered with PetFinder.com to showcase our current animals up for adoption.

Volunteering

Ranch Hand Rescue relies on the generosity of our wonderful volunteers! Their kindness and support enables us to continue our efforts in providing care for neglected or abused farm animals. From physical labor on the ranch to administrative tasks like fundraising, we couldn't do it without our volunteers!

Guidelines

Volunteers should first submit an application. Once approved, volunteers are asked to attend an orientation session lasting around 1 hour to familiarize themselves with the Ranch and to ask any questions as well as schedule their first volunteer session/training.

All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Caring for farm animals is very different than caring for domestic pets, such as dogs and cats. There are some serious dangers involved when working with large animals in general, but they are especially obvious when working with large animals that are not used to human contact or have only had negative human interactions. We appreciate your desire to help and hope you understand that it is for the good of the animals and the volunteers that we implement this guideline.

Volunteers are asked to work at least 4 hours per month. For ranch hands, we ask that those hours be scheduled in advance and not worked on a "drop-in" basis. The animals have strict requirements for feeding, exercise, etc. and we need volunteers that can commit to specific timeframes so we can balance our staff accordingly.

Our Volunteer Coordinator

Pam Palmer brings a wealth of knowledge to Ranch Hand Rescue, including volunteer management, offsite event coordination and community outreach. All of these were skills she acquired while employed at the Humane Society of North Texas as the Community Outreach Director. She has a true servant's heart and a sincere desire to see that all animals, great and small, receive the love and care they deserve. She is always available for questions, comments and suggestions, so please feel free to reach out to her and to sign on to help with the animals or with the many upcoming fundraisers for the rescue!

Volunteering Opportunities:

Ranch hands

Our on-site volunteer program is designed to bring people that have a deep love and respect for animals together with animals that need love and respect. Through a series of hands-on experiences, our hope is that volunteers will acquire the knowledge to interact with all of our animals in a positive manner.

You'll find that we are very specific about animal care. During the hot, muggy days of summer and on the miserable, bitter cold days of winter, the animals still need to be fed, the water buckets filled, the paddocks cleaned and the medications given. If you say you'll be here, we're counting on you!

Days/hours available for ranch hand volunteers are:

  • Tuesdays 8am-12pm
  • Thursdays 8am-12pm
  • Saturdays 8am-12pm

Fundraising

We also need assistance with fundraising and off-site activities. We need people that are creative, flexible, resourceful and not afraid to ask for help on behalf of the animals! Ranch Hand Rescue can't survive without donations. It is critical that we maintain a good stream of donation income in order to maintain the high standard of care for our residents.

Construction and yard work

With so many acres and so many buildings, there are always plenty of construction opportunities and more than enough yard work to go around! We want to keep our animal homes in tip-top shape and want to ensure that our grounds are appealing to visitors. If you have a green thumb or are great at swinging a hammer, this is the job for you!

Join us!

Begin by downloading and completing this volunteer application. Forward the completed application to info@ranchhandrescue. Once received, it will be reviewed and Pam will contact you to schedule an orientation. Thank you so much for wanting to give of your time to help those that cannot speak for themselves!
